Obama Team Doesn’t Get Young People

(Before It's News)

In its latest desperate attempt to get young people signed up for Obamacare, the Obama team has released a video in which celebrity moms urge young people to get covered. The moms of Jonah Hill, Adam Levine, Alicia Keys, and Jennifer Lopez are featured in the video, which includes such lines as “Young people feel invincible,” “Seriously, do you want your mothers to have a nervous breakdown?” and “Taking care of yourself so your mothers can sleep and have a nice life after all they’ve done for you is not too much to ask.” Michelle Obama appears at the end reminding young people that “We nag you because we love you.”

Whatever genius came up with this marketing campaign needs to find another line of work.

Obama team, let me offer you a reminder. Young people don’t like it when their moms, other people’s moms, or celebrity moms tell them what to do. They want to make their own decisions. These same young people you’re treating like babies are often working, paying rent, and quite capable of deciding how they want to spend their hard-earned cash.

It really is astonishing to me that Obama was able to grab the youth vote so well in two elections and now somehow forgets to treat them like the adults who voted for him.

Republican Party, this is your opportunity. Remind young people that you stand by their right to make these decisions for themselves. Remind them that you don’t think someone else–government included–should be telling them how to spend their money or what their priorities should be.

Young people value their freedom. They flock toward the opportunity to build big dreams. They hate being lectured. And they love nothing more than people who stop treating them like little kids and start respecting the fact that they have a voice, a vote, and a right to build the lives they want for themselves.

The Obama administration is in the midst of an enormous marketing failure. They’re also doing a great job of turning off young voters. GOP, you should be right there, front and center, reminding those voters that someone’s looking out for their freedoms.
