(Before It's News)

Minneapolis, MN – President Donald Trump signed a revised Muslim ban executive order March 5. The Minnesota Anti-War Committee will hold a protest at 4:30 p.m. at the U.S. Federal Courts Building (300 S 4th St, Minneapolis) on Thursday, March 16, the day the executive order will be put into effect.

Although changes to the original Jan. 27 ban include the exemption of green card holders and the removal of the indefinite ban on Syrian refugees, the Anti-War Committee still sees it as a continuation of the racist, xenophobic, and Islamophobic policies of the Trump administration.

The original executive order was defeated when thousands of people across the country protested at airports and marched through cities, including 15,000 marching on Jan. 31 in Minneapolis, to protest the ban. These protests prompted a federal judge in Washington state to file an injunction freezing the order, which was upheld on appeal by the 9th Circuit.

“Make no mistake that this is still very much a Muslim ban,” said Meredith Aby-Keirstead, a spokesperson for the Anti-War Committee. “Immigrants from Sudan, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia and Yemen will be targeted and denied entry into the U.S., and refugees won't be accepted here either. It is criminal for the U.S. to bomb and attack other countries and then turn them away when the U.S. has destroyed their homelands. It is outrageous for Trump to do this while at the same time threatening Iran, planning to expand the war in Syria, and increasing the bombing attacks in Yemen!”

Aby-Keirstead continued, “Resistance to Trump's first month in office is unprecedented and will continue. Minnesotans will not be silent while their Somali, Arab and Muslim neighbors are targeted by the federal government!”
