Interview with Charlaine Harris on her new book Deadlocked & HBO's True Blood
I am a huge admirer of Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse books that inspired HBO's True Blood. I also of course love the show True Blood and with great blood sucking pleasure and gratitude. Present to you this informative interview with Charlaine Harris herself. Delving into the plot of her new book Deadlocked and her feelings on True Blood. Presenting…
1. When you first began as a writer Charlaine, what obstacles did you have to overcome to get published and to find your groove? Alot of aspring writers out there like myself would love to know I'm sure.
Charlaine Harris: Disgustingly, my first book was published. I was very shaky on the publishing process, but luckily for me I took a creative writing class at St. Louis University the only year we lived in the city. Shannon Ravenel taught that class, as luck would have it. She liked what I wrote in the class well enough to recommend it to her former colleagues at Houghton Mifflin.
2. Were the characters of Sookie and Bill and all the others haunting you for a while before you finally wrote about them?
Charlaine Harris: No. I created Sookie when I decided I wanted to write a book about a woman who was dating a vampire in today’s society. But they’ve certainly lived with me a long time now.
3. In Deadlocked is this an old villian or a new villian that shows up against the main characters? Even though many of the characters in the main ensemble are heroes and villians. What can you tell us about the main protaganist who Sookies comes up against?
Charlaine Harris: Very few of my characters are totally heroic or totally villainous. But the villains in DEADLOCKED aren’t straightforward, but devious.
