Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. I know that you are offspring of Abraham; yet you seek to kill me because my word finds no place in you. I speak of what I have seen with my Father, and you do what you have heard from your father. John 8: 34 – 38
I want to spend some time today on this one verse, which to my way of thinking is amazing, as it is a promise of being set free.
Being set free from what? Jesus tells us in the first verse: Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin.
So here’s where the rubber meets the road. My first spiritual mentor was Wayne Kendall. He used to say that human beings were garbage dumps. When I first heard this I was taken aback by this. However, after walking with Yeshua/Jesus under the power of the spirit of the Living God for 35 years I now believe, more than ever, that Wayne’s words are true.
A person, going through one day on this planet can pick up all sorts of garbage, they can hear words spoken against them, hurtful words, which can weigh the down. They can get mad at someone, or an argument can turn ugly and leave two people estranged. A person can seek escape from these things through drugs, alcohol or pornography. I have been told that over 30% of pastors, in this country are addicted to Porn.

What I’m getting at is this, life is full of situations, circumstances which, if left unchecked can lead us down a path which leads to bondage. The good news is this:
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
I have stated this before and I said it again last night at the conference. 35 years ago I was a drug taking, fornicating, guru worshipping, occult practicing heathen and God—the real one—picked me out of the mire, forgave my sins and set me on the right path. By the way, He continually guides me, as like most humans, we all have a proclivity to stray off the “path”!
Are you addicted to drugs? He can set you free!
Are you bitter? He can set you free!
Are you angry at something that happened long ago? He can help you forgive and set you free.
Are you addicted to porn? He can set you free.
Whatever the human condition is—and all of us have a condition! (LOL)—Yeshua/Jesus can set us free from the bondage of that condition, which is sin.
This is the miracle of being a Christian. This is what turned the world on its head almost 2 thousand years ago.
I wrote in last weeks Bun, that if you think you know Jesus but you don’t know Him, you don’t know Him. It’s true! He is the Prince of peace and only He can bring the peace in our lives that passes understanding. Only He can set us free, by the power of the Living God, from the bondage of sin.
He loves us. He loves you and knows all of the “garbage” that you carry around. He can set you free and give you a new life, free from the pain and the hurt. Free from the addiction, free from what weighs you down.
You can know Him by asking Him into your heart today because: if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
