Big cat sightings are nothing new to the UK. In fact the British countrysides are pretty well known for their mystery big cat sightings and lore. But now new sightings of a creature known as the “Beast of Bolton” are occurring. What makes these big cat sightings odd is that Bolton isn’t a rural area, it’s a town of over 139,000 people.

Several reports of a giant cat prowling the streets at night have been recorded by townsfolk, with the latest claiming the animal is the “size of a car bonnet”.

Frightened eyewitness Natalie Kay came in contact with the huge creature while driving her Vauxhall Zafira at around 9.30pm.

“I had to slam the brakes on and it just stopped dead right in the middle of the road, staring at me,” she recalled.

“It was big with a long tail, pointed ears and greedy yellow eyes – about the same size as the bonnet of my car and really scary.

“You hear of these animals in jungles, but you wouldn’t think anything like that could live in Bolton.”

She said the ‘Beast’ ran down a dirt track which leads to Higher and Lower Doe Hey Reservoirs, the ideal hiding spot.

There have been numerous sightings of the massive, mysterious cat since the first reportings in November. It is apparently “larger than a Rottweiler”.

  • I suspect a lot of the big-cat sightings in Britain stem from the fox-hunting set who fancied bigger, more exotic game, and smuggled them in and turned them loose on country estates but they were outsmarted by the cats who got away. It seems unlikely small private zoos can account for the numbers – not many people are stupid enough to mess around with an animal that might eat them – but the gentry think they’re above the law and may be irresponsible enough.
