20 Years Ago NYPD Officer Jailed For Chokehold, Why Not Now. The similarities are striking. Both Anthony Baez and Eric Garner, in their final moments, were put into chokeholds by officers from the New York City Police Department. Both of the cops involved were white, while Baez and Garner were minorities and unarmed.

Edouard’s assault charges come after a spate of high-profile police brutality cases ended in non-indictment of majority-white officers who killed unarmed black men and women, including incidents that were caught on film, such as the chokehold death of Eric Garner in New York and the shooting of John Crawford in Utah.
