In a startling move, the University of Cincinnati has decided to stop their police department patrols, following the murder of Samuel DuBose at the hands of former University of Cincinnati officer Ray Tensing.
In agreeing with the City of Cincinnati to ban the officers and department from off-campus patrols, the University has revealed some disturbing news about traffic stops made by University police throughout the area surrounding the school.
Local WXIX Fox 19 has reported that University of Cincinnati police force off-campus patrols have been terminated as of this past week.
The City of Cincinnati Law and Public Safety Committee quickly approved the ordinance after reviewing trafficstops dating back to January 1, 2013, which indicated a pattern of discrimination.
University records show that the police had doubled stops of non-African Americans from 579 in 2013 to 932 with stops of African American Cincinnatians quadrupling from 633 in 2013 to 2,354 this .year alone!
Councilwoman Yvette Simpson said it’s “astounding. You don’t want to make accusations, but it’s like— there’sdisparate impact and then there’s profiling. That’s a huge number.”
Cincinnati Police Chief Jeffrey Blackwell admitted “I was a little bit concerned — I can’t lie – I’m a little bit concerned about the numbers and the discrepancy in the culture and race of the drivers that are stopped. I think we have to look at that to see if there’s anything there.”source
