UPDATE

The ground stop of flights, caused when passengers ran onto the LAX airfield, was lifted by the FAA around 10 pm Pacific time. Too late for twelve flights which had already been diverted from LAX to the Ontario International Airport.

The roads in and out of LAX were reopened around 10:30 pm Pacific time, relieving the growing traffic congestion around the airport.

Police lieutenant Andy Neiman, commanding officer of Los Angeles police media relations, tweeted the following conclusion of the incident. (Andy Neiman ‏@LAPDNeiman)

“The report of a shooting at LAX has proven to be LOUD NOISES only — No shots fired; no injuries. Investigation continues to locate source (of the loud noises).”

Social media posts from Los Angeles International Airport are describing shots fired in Terminal 8 and police rushing to the scene. Reports of shots fired began coming in just after 9:00 pm Pacific time.

There is footage of people fleeing LAX, evacuating the area. There were even individuals evacuated onto the tarmac, wandering beneath the parked and waiting planes.

Police are in the airport, searching the terminals for a possible shooter. At this time, the situation is still being investigated and the report of shots fired remains unconfirmed.

The entrance to the airport has been blocked, and flight operations have been stopped at LAX.
