A Call To Repeal The Second Amendment
Des Moines Register columnist Donald Kaul has written a column on the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in which he calls for repealing the second amendment and branding the NRA as a terrorist organization.
Mr. Kaul writes:
“The thing missing from the debate so far is anger — anger that we live in a society where something like the Sandy Hook Elementary massacre can happen and our main concern is not offending the NRA’s sensibilities.
That’s obscene. Here, then, is my “madder-than-hell-and-I’m-not-going-to-take-it-anymore” program for ending gun violence in America:
• Repeal the Second Amendment, the part about guns anyway. It’s badly written, confusing and more trouble than it’s worth. It offers an absolute right to gun ownership, but it puts it in the context of the need for a “well-regulated militia.” We don’t make our militia bring their own guns to battles. And surely the Founders couldn’t have envisioned weapons like those used in the Newtown shooting when they guaranteed gun rights. Owning a gun should be a privilege, not a right.
• Declare the NRA a terrorist organization and make membership illegal. Hey! We did it to the Communist Party, and the NRA has led to the deaths of more of us than American Commies ever did. (I would also raze the organization’s headquarters, clear the rubble and salt the earth, but that’s optional.) Make ownership of unlicensed assault rifles a felony. If some people refused to give up their guns, that “prying the guns from their cold, dead hands” thing works for me.
• Then I would tie Mitch McConnell and John Boehner, our esteemed Republican leaders, to the back of a Chevy pickup truck and drag them around a parking lot until they saw the light on gun control.
And if that didn’t work, I’d adopt radical measures. None of that is going to happen, of course. But I’ll bet gun sales will rise.”

You want to confiscate all guns, make illegal to be an NRA member, you even go so far as to want to impose the death penalty on individual citizens that refuse to turn over their weapons, which are Constitutionally protected. Here is a novel idea, probably well over your pea sized brain, why not discuss the violent films turned out by Hollywood? Or the violent video games our kids are always playing. Or maybe even, blame the crime on the person that committed it? But that isn’t how you liberals think, you would rather trample the rights of others instead of holding the criminals accountable.Usually, I don’t wish ill on anybody, but you, I hope a criminal breaks into your house one night and you have nothing to defend yourself with. Following the law, they would need to change the 2nd amendment, which would require 2/3 of congress to approve, then ratification by 3/4 of the states to make a change. Since that won’t happen, they’ll just try to pass laws, issue executive orders and so forth to get what they want without following the law.

Kaul is an idiot, take everyone guns away, forbid them from having them, and then only the criminals will have guns, they don’t care, throughout the whole BRADY BILL era criminals still got assault rifles, foreign manufactures still made fully auto parts, and sold them in kits from separate companies so you could import them in steps to avoid customs seizure, high capacity magazines where being stamped out in plastic and metal in foreign countries, people were buying them. You seem to be under the impression that just because there is a law, people are going to obey it. TEXAS made a law about wearing motorcycle helmets, it was eventually taken off the books because it was unenforceable, those adult choose to not follow it, so ti was finally removed except for minors have to wear them.
I suppose Kaul things the solution to fist fights is to order citizens to tie their own hands behind their backs. People like him won out in the UK, but the murder rate has doubled. Since most are now committed with knives, they are proposing banning “large kitchen knives” – only in the land of Orwell.
Your idea to stop gun violence is to tie someone to the back of your truck a drag them along the ground. That’s pretty much what the government would do to you if you didn’t have a gun to propect yourself & property.

What do you plan to do about the 3.1 children a day that die from physical abuse,or the 200000 people that are killed by medical errors. Efforts to reduce gun violence in the United States are focusing on banning some weapons, limiting magazine size, increasing background checks for gun purchasers, and other marginal changes. These efforts will fail because they only address symptoms of the problem, not the underlying cause — which is the Second Amendment to the Constitution.

Our home is one of complete love. I keep guns for many reasons, not the least of which is to defend my family. 7 years ago four black men thought it would be a good idea to break into our home to steal a few things WHILE WE WERE HOME. This home invasion is not an uncommon thing. I am so grateful for my preparedness. I had also trained my kids extensively in the use and safe handling of guns, the oldest of which was 12 at the time. I opened the safe and handed a gun to my eldest and told him to stay put. I then took another shotgun and a handgun and proceeded down the stairs as my eldest dialed 911. Fortunately, the sight of me coming with the guns caused these four men to make a hasty exit out the back door. By then they had already stacked a number of goodies they intended to bring with them, but had forgotten in their hurry. About 6 minutes later the police arrived. Given that I live just 3 minutes from a police station I suppose that was a pretty quick response. Had I not been able to defend us I can only imagine what might have happened. Most likely the police would have arrived in time to write a casualty report. There is not a snowballs chance in hell that I would ever willingly give up my guns. I believe so much in my God given right to own and use them that I honestly would rather die fighting the tyranny that tried to take them rather than give them up. Our founding fathers did not grant us the right to bear arms, they specifically said that these rights in the Bill of Rights were “inalienable”. Look it up. not you or anyone else can encroach that space.
