SOUTH GATE, Calif. — Los Angeles police have stopped a gunman who smashed up a car during a chase, then carjacked another vehicle and fled from officers on a freeway.
TV news reports showed officers finally handcuffing the man as he lay on the ground Monday evening in Montebello.
TV news reports says shots were fired, but details weren’t immediately available.
The chase began with a Toyota Camry veering through a city south of Los Angeles, sometimes against traffic. It hit at least four cars before the driver abandoned the damaged car and stole another from a woman at gunpoint.
The car then veered onto a freeway, pursued by at least eight police cars.
