Hillary Lists Two Achievements As Secretary of State; Dubious Ones

(Before It's News)

It took some digging, but Hillary Clinton scrounged up with two “accomplishments” achieved during her tenure as Secretary of State and listed them in the biography section of her new campaign website.

Neither are particularly impressive, one because it doesn’t seem to be true, the other because – it’s not particularly impressive.

I say it took some digging because here is Hillary in April 2014, unable to come up with anything at all.

So now she has found two. Unless of course you count this blather:

She was a forceful champion for human rights, internet freedom, and rights and opportunities for women and girls, LGBT people and young people all around the globe.

I know you don’t accept feeble generalities. But the specifics are pretty feeble too. Here’s one:

She built a coalition for tough new sanctions against Iran that brought them to the negotiating table and she brokered a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas that ended a war and protected Israel’s security.

Now that would be pretty important work, if she had done it. When President Obama last year tried to make this claim for his administrationr, the Washington Post “Fact Checker” gave him “three Pinocchios” – that is, essentially it’s a lie:

The framing of the Iranian issue leaves a misleading impression. After all, the Iranian program continued to grow at a rapid pace through much of the Obama administration, at least until the recent negotiations. And the groundwork and the strategy for the coalition that imposed sanctions on Iran was laid in the Bush administration.

It really takes a lot of chutzpah to claim success on Iran when you were the Secretary of State who permitted the Mullahs to get within two or three months of the bomb.

Here’s the other achievement:

She brokered a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas that ended a war and protected Israel’s security.

Really? She brokered a ceasefire to an eight-day conflict? That’s the big doings? The ceasefire, as the New York Times noted at the time, didn’t solve any problems:

The one-page memorandum of understanding left the issues that have most inflamed the tensions between the Israelis and the Gazans up for further negotiation. Israel demands long-term border security, including an end to Palestinian missile launching over the border. Hamas wants an end to the Israeli embargo.

The world is an utter mess. At least the current Secretary of State, John Kerry, is trying to do specific things. Granted, that means he’s doing even more damage. But still, he’s not just flying around the world hoping his tailwinds create peace, love and understanding.
