Iran has criticized the European Union’s decision to re-impose sanctions on the country’s Bank Tejarat and 32 shipping companies.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Marziyeh Afkham called the move politically-motivated and against goodwill. She noted that as nuclear talks are still underway between Iran and the P5+1 to reach a comprehensive nuclear deal by the end of June, such decisions are questionable and unconstructive. The European Union has re-imposed the sanctions on what it calls new legal grounds. This was in response to an earlier ruling by a top European court against the union’s sanctions on 40 targeted Iranian entities. Almost all of them have been returned to the list of sanctions, but still eight have been de-listed.
