NO DEAL: Senate Fails To Pass Short Term Extension Of Spy Program
Led by Rand Paul, opposition successfully prevented short term extension of the Patriot Act on Sunday.
On Sunday, key intelligence gathering provisions of the Patriot Act, set to expire at midnight, were not extended by the U.S. Senate in an 11th hour vote that took place just a week after the fate of the program was left hanging after resistance, largely organized by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) 82%, prevented a consensus.
However, the Senate did vote by a large margin to move forward on the USA Freedom Act. With a 77-17 vote, the bill will move forward for a final vote to take place as early as Tuesday, but which may go past that if Paul has anything to do with it. The bill has already passed the House. The intelligence provisions at the center of the debate, dubbed the ‘domestic spying program” by many, were pitched as absolutely essential to the war on terror by leadership in both parties as well as by President Obama, who urged passage of the Act. They have been under heavy fire from the more libertarian elements of the party.
Sunday’s last minute vote was called by Senate Majority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) 64%. Senator Paul and his allies succeeded in preventing any short term extension of the program while debate on the Freedom Act continues. That means that tonight, beginning at midnight D.C. time, the NSA will no longer have the ability to act on the expired provisions, until such time as the Freedom Act is ultimately passed. Or not. There will be no “database queries’ or “dragnets” for the time being.
The NSA began the process of shutting down at 4pm ET Sunday afternoon. If and when the program is rejoined, it will take up to 24 hours to be up and running.

isn’t it wonderful that you can tell how detrimental their programs are just by the names they give them.. patriot act, obamacare, and now USA Freedom Act. They believe that if they name their programs with something helpful or caring that we won’t recognize how EVIL these bastards really are!
They are daring us to challenge them, knowing there isn’t a damn thing we can, or will do to stop them!
We have one thing in our favor,. NONE OF IT APPLIES TO THE PRIVATE PERSON! What!?!?! Yup! None of what they pass as legislation actually applies to you/me/us!
Did you sign their CON-stitution? No!?!? um then you aren’t a party to their FRAUDULENT LEGISLATION, which is limited territorially 10 square miles in washington dc and other federally owned property, post offices, military installations, national parks and the like.
Do you happen to live in one of those area’s?? If you don’t then their statutes, laws, codes, policies, etc don’t apply to you!

Ask your favorite government agency to supply you with factual firsthand irrefutable evidence that you are a party to their CON-stitution.. THEY CAN’T GIVE YOU WHAT NEVER EXISTED!!!
FYI: If you’re not a party to some agreement, contract, compact or CON-stitution, then it, or any promulgations arising from, of or by any alleged authority granted by the original agreement, can NEVER attach to you!
