Ahrar al-Sham Senior Commander Killed in Northwestern Syria

Unidentified gunmen killed Ali al-Shomali, a senior commander of Ahrar al-Sham terrorist group, in Idlib province, Northwestern Syria.

Al-Shomali was shot dead in Ma’ara al-Nauman region in Idlib province on Tuesday, FNA dispatches said.

Neither the Syrian army nor the rival terrorist groups have claimed responsibility for al-Shomali’s assassination yet.

The assassination attempt on al-Shomali came two days after another Syrian commander of Ahrar al-Sham named Abu Hamzeh al-Hariri was killed by the ISIL terrorists in the Syrian city of Houran.

Ahrar al-Sham terrorist group has pledged allegiance to the Al-Nusra Front.

The clashes between Al-Nusra Front and the ISIL have prompted 60,000 people to flee towns in some districts in Syria.

Reports suggest that hundreds of militants on both sides have so far been killed in the internecine clashes.

Syrian Army, Hezbollah Take Full Control of Strategic Region in al-Qalamoun

The Syrian army and the Lebanese Hezbollah resistance movement regained full control over a strategic crossing in al-Qalamoun in Southern Syria on Wednesday.

Wadi al-Maqara crossing in Jreijeer hilltop in Al-Qalamoun mountains was seized back from ISIL control after fierce clashes.

Early reports indicated a large number of casualties in the battle over Wadi al-Maqara crossing, but there has been no official account on death toll on either side.

On Tuesday, Hezbollah along with Syrian troops pressed ahead with their military campaign against the ISIL in Qalamoun region and seized backed several more regions from the grip of the Takfiri terrorist group.

The joint forces took control of Shoba al-Bakareh, Shoba Salaja al-Barkan, Qarna Shoba al-Shekara, Shoba Beit Shakour and Zalil al-Haj Ali hilltops.

The Syrian army and Hezbollah fighters inflicted major losses on the ISIL terrorists, killing tens of them and injuring dozens more.

On Sunday, the Lebanese Hezbollah resistance movement started its first phase of military operations against the ISIL Takfiri terrorists in Al-Qalamoun after purging Al-Nusra Front terrorists from the mountainous region along the Syria-Lebanon border in the last several weeks.

The Hezbollah operations cover areas from al-Qasir region to the hilltops of al-Aqua, Ras Ba’albak and al-Jreijeer in Al-Qalamoun.

The Hezbollah fighters are using new tactics in their operations against the ISIL in Al-Qalamoun, including use of reconnaissance and missile-launching drones.

Hezbollah’s drones are due to find the precise location of ISIL hideouts in the region and then target them.

Last Tuesday, Hezbollah alongside the Syrian Army stormed the positions of al-Nusra terrorists in the nearby areas of Jreijeer and took control over this strategic spot.

The military sources said that the terrorists’ concentration center in Jreijeer was their last stronghold in al-Qalamoun.

Earlier this month, Hezbollah Deputy Leader Sheikh Naeem Qassem underlined that the Lebanese resistance movement will continue fighting against the Takfiri terrorists in Arsal border region.

“We will continue our battle in Arsal hilltops until uprooting the last terrorist in that region, but (protecting) the security of the city of Arsal is the duty of the Lebanese government that needs to be fulfilled,” the Lebanese Elnashra news website quoted Sheikh Qassem as saying.

The Lebanese deputy chief, meantime, pointed to the regional crises created by the West, and said, “The western countries are good at creating crises, but they are unsuccessful when it comes to ending them.”

ISIL Retreats from East of Aleppo to Raqqa

The ISIL terrorist group relocated its forces from the Northwestern city of Aleppo to positions in Raqqa to assist other terrorists in the Northeastern province against the Kurdish and Syrian forces’ heavy attacks.

Al-Mayadeen TV channel reported that the Takfiri terrorists have retreated from the city of Jarabulus in the Eastern part of Aleppo after sustaining heavy blows from the Syrian army.

The report added that the ISIL troops are now on the move to join their comrades in Raqqa province where the terrorist group has sustained a growing number of defeats and lost vast areas on multiple fronts. At the weekend, the Syrian Kurdish fighters along with the army units made major advances in their clean-up operations on the outskirts of the strategic Northern border town of Tal Abyad, North of Raqqa, and recaptured several areas from the ISIL terrorists.

On Saturday, the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) and the army soldiers continued to make more gains in their fight against ISIL around Tal Abyad, recapturing the villages of Umm Barmeel, Khatoun, Abu Husseini, Maheiri, Al-Rawiyah, and five small farms.

In a relevant development on Wednesday, The Syrian Armed Forces, in heavy clashes with the militant groups, forced them to leave behind their equipment and retreat from their positions in some battlefronts in Idlib and Homs provinces.

Military sources told the FNA that the Syrian army men have been successful in their anti-terrorism operations in the Northwestern province of Idlib, and pushed the militants back from their strongholds near al-Qura village.

The sources in the Central province of Homs also confirmed that the army managed to ambush a group of the ISIL terrorists near al-Tafha village in the Eastern parts of the province, which resulted in the killing or wounding of tens of the fighters.

The ISIL terrorists also suffered heavy losses during army operations against their gatherings in Unq al-Hawa and al-Msheirfeh al-Shamaliyeh in Jebb al-Jarrah area.

Syria has been grappling with a deadly crisis since March 2011. The violence fuelled by Takfiri groups has so far claimed the lives of over 210,000 people, according to reports. New figures show that over 76,000 people, including thousands of children, lost their lives in Syria last year.

Iraqi Volunteer Forces Reject Cooperation with US Army

The Iraqi Volunteer Forces (Hashd al-Shaabi) categorically rejected a Bloomberg report on their cooperation with the American troops in Iraq.

“There is no cooperation and coordination with the Americans to win back the regions controlled by the ISIL,” Spokesman of Iraqi Volunteer Forces Karim al-Nouri said in reaction to news reports on Hashd al-Shaabi’s cooperation with US forces.

A Bloomberg View column, citing two unidentified American administration officials, claimed Hashd al-Shaabi forces groups are sharing use of a military base with US troops.

Earlier today, Pentagon Spokesman Colonel Steve Warren also rejected that the US army is sharing its new military base in Iraq’s Anbar province with volunteer forces.

Earlier this month, Secretary-General of the powerful Badr Organization Hadi al-Ameri underlined that the Iraqi forces, including the Shiite volunteers, have no need to the US assistance in their fight against the ISIL terrorist group.

Al-Ameri said that sending more American troops will damage the plan to free Iraqi cities and towns from ISIL control.
