 At least three boats carrying pro-Palestinian activists are preparing to set sail for the Gaza Strip in an attempt to break Israel’s blockade of the territory.

Members of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition in the Italian city of Palermo aim to reach Gaza before the end of June. However, the boats will only bring small amounts of medical supplies and other aid including solar panels. The main objective of the flotilla is to open Gaza’s port to allow freedom of movement and trade.

More details about the plan, including the final departure point of the flotilla, are kept secret to avoid sabotage. In 20-10, Israeli forces attacked a similar flotilla that was trying to reach Gaza and killed 10 Turkish activists. Tel Aviv has imposed a total air, ground, and naval blockade on Gaza since 2007.
