(Before It's News)

Today, on the Moon Griffon Show – which is a statewide talk show in Louisiana – Rick Santorum spoke for a couple of segments on his candidacy, what’s going on in the United States, and how to fix the problems he sees. He spoke at length about job creation, and repairing not only the American economy, but also American innovation. It was the kind of thing you’d expect, and it’s not too big a surprise that he would want to speak to a Louisiana talk show host. After all, he won Louisiana in the last presidential primary.

However, when asked about the trade fight going on in Washington D.C., Rick Santorum said he wasn’t really paying attention to it. He wants to focus on his talking points and really work on running on healthcare and the economy. Rick Santorum, you see, is running for president in 2012.

I’m not saying healthcare and the economy won’t be important, but if you are not at all paying attention to contemporary issues, how on earth can you expect the voters to think you’ll be able to handle any new issues that come up while you’re president? Foreign policy – from ISIS to free trade – will be major things you as president will have to deal with, and if you’re focusing on being an entirely domestic president, you are not going to get very far with a populace that is increasingly concerned with what’s going on around the rest of the world.

If the economy and healthcare are your focal points in 2015, how are you going to address the OPM hack? How will you react if/when something even worse happens? This is not the campaign of someone running to be president today. The Santorum campaign appears to be looking at the relative success of 2012, thinking “That seems good” and just repeating it. Some bad news for Santorum: You can outlast a handful of candidates, but you can’t outlast a dozen.
