Hail to the Redskins: Bowser and DC get their bluff called

(Before It's News)

The Redskins, Washington’s NFL team, want a new stadium. Jack Kent Cooke Stadium was opened in 1997, so by the time any new one opens, it’ll be at least 20 years old. Currently they’re in Maryland, but are open to sites in DC and in Virginia, the latter being where the Redskins have their headquarters*.

This has put DC in a bind between politics and economics.

DC Mayor Muriel Bowser started off the process by being a good Democrat and making the demand that the team change its name before it be permitted to build a stadium in DC. Well, Redskins owner Dan Snyder and team President Bruce Allen didn’t blink and will not cave to that demand just to build a stadium in DC.

That’s where the fun begins. You see, DC really wants the team to move into DC to spur redevelopment. And Loudoun County, Virginia, where the Silver Line train is coming, and where that headquarters already is, has plenty of land to build a stadium they could get without having to kowtow to to ideological politicians.

So watch as the Bowser administration starts squirming to bring the ‘racist’ Redskins into DC, name and all.

* When I worked at my old job, my commute home took me past it all the time. The giant tent they have over their practice field was interesting to see.
