New York Ordering Tests of Water-Cooling Towers Amid Legionnaires' Outbreak | 06 Aug 2015 | Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Thursday that New York City building owners would be required to test and disinfect their water-cooling towers within the next two weeks as the city continued to battle an outbreak of Legionnaires' disease in the South Bronx. The mayor's announcement came as city officials reported that the disease had killed two more people, bringing to 10 the total number of fatalities in the worst Legionnaires' outbreak in the city's history. One hundred people have been infected in the South Bronx.
