Independent Catalonia will be kicked out of the eurozone – YouTube

Head of the Bank of Spain says the autonomous region of Catalonia would be automatically excluded from the eurozone if it becomes independent from the rest of the country.

Luis Maria Linde noted that in case of a eurozone exit, Catalonia’s banks would also lose access to the European Central Bank’s facilities. Meantime, polls suggest that Catalan separatists are on track to win a small majority of seats in the region’s parliament in the upcoming elections. Catalan President Artur Mas has pledged to intensify efforts for Catalonia’s independence if pro-secession parties gain victory in the polls. In a symbolic independence referendum last year, nearly 80 percent of the 2-point-2 million people who took part in the vote backed secession.
