Harry Reid Supports Allowing Terrorists Into America But Wants To Stop Gun Sales
Ever since Harry Reid was punched in the face by a gay hooker had an “exercise band” “break” while attached to his “shower door” last year, he has become more and more emotionally unstable. Even before his unfortunate “accident” he used the floor of the Senate to tell lies about the Koch brothers. This was an act completely unprecedented in the history of the republic. Now he is on a new binge of stupid.
Yesterday, the US House of Representatives overwhelmingly, with a huge bipartisan veto-proof majority, voted to slow down the admission of Syrian refugees to insure we are not admitting terrorists. Harry Reid, ever willing to do whatever it takes to make his puppet master happy, vowed to filibuster the bill:
Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid (Nev.) vowed to block the House bill if it is considered by the upper chamber after the Thanksgiving recess.
“The problem is not with refugees,” Reid said. “I don’t think we’ll be dealing with it over here.”
When asked about the prospect of Obama vetoing the legislation, Reid said, “Don’t worry, it won’t get passed. Next question?”
In short, Harry Reid is saying he doesn’t care how many terrorist come to the United States or how many Americans they kill so long as Barack Obama get his way.
Now, Reid is using his own weakness on terrorism as a way of trying to make it more difficult for Americans to acquire firearms.
Las Vegas, NV – Nevada Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) 12% released the following statement demanding that Republican leaders take immediate action to close a loophole preserved by Republicans, acting at the bidding of the National Rifle Association, which allows individuals on the nation’s numerous terror watch lists to legally purchase firearms and explosives like those used in the Paris attacks at gun shows:
“Republicans care more about kowtowing to the NRA than preventing terrorists from legally buying assault rifles and explosives like the ones used in the Paris attacks here in America.
“Shockingly, Republicans continue to preserve a loophole that allows FBI terror suspects to buy guns and explosives legally, without background checks. As we speak, a terrorist on the FBI’s terror watch list can walk into a gun show in your hometown and buy as many AK-47s and explosives as they need to commit the kind of mass, heinous slaughter of innocents we witnessed in Paris and which we know terrorists want to perpetrate here in America. Al Qaeda openly urges militants in the United States to purchase firearms through this loophole.
“Democrats have sought to close this loophole for years but have been blocked by Republicans blindly doing the bidding of the NRA. In the wake of Paris, closing the loophole that allows FBI terror suspects to buy guns and explosives should be an obvious step. Legislation to close the loophole has existed for years. But Republican leaders in both Houses of Congress continue to block legislation to close this terrorist loophole.
“By leaving this terrorist loophole open, Republicans are leaving every community in America vulnerable to attacks by terrorists armed with assault rifles and explosives purchased legally, in broad daylight. The Republican-led Congress should immediately close the loophole that allows terrorists to legally buy assault rifles and explosives right here in America.”
This is one of those things Democrats do, the technical term is “lie”, to try to get their way.
Let’s look at the facts. To buy explosives in the United States you need to apply for a license from the ATF. You have no right to have the license. I don’t know what their rules are for issuing one, but if they are issuing them to people on a terror watch list then that isn’t the fault of the NRA or anyone else but the people who gave you Fast and Furious. You can’t walk into Wally World and buy blocks of C-4.
Neither can you buy the “assault rifles… like the ones used in the Paris attacks.” Those weapons were full automatic (btw, they were illegal in France which seems to indicate that criminals commit crimes and are immune to the deterrent effect of the law) and are not readily available in the United States.
Yes, you an buy black powder. You can have up to 50-lbs of it. And do you know what? Convicted felons are allowed to possess both black powder and black powder weapons. What Reid is trying to do is create a threat from this propellant when it is of limited use. The only time it has ever been used was at the Boston Marathon bombing, which was carried out by two Muslim extremists who had been admitted to the United States as refugees. They obtained their black powder by buying and disassembling fireworks.
Can someone on a terrorist watch list buy a weapon? Sure. They should be able to. They haven’t been convicted of a crime. If they are following the law they are getting a background check from the firearms dealer which should let the FBI know what they are doing. As we’ve seen with the “no fly” list, there is no way to legally challenge being placed on a watch list. As terror groups usually don’t give their membership rosters to the FBI, the FBI is pretty much free to include whomever they wish. There is no way a group has of knowing it has been designated a group worthy of being considered and no means of challenging that designation and no real guidelines for which groups to include. Consider for a moment, the FBI collaborates with the Southern Poverty Law Center. The SPLC considers the Family Research Council to be a “hate group.” You can see how easily, once this “loophole” is closed that someone like Eric Holder could have put anyone in the FRC or in a Tea Party organization on a “watch list.”
What Reid is doing is simply trying to hijack the attack in Paris for very partisan political ends. He wants to pass a law of very, very doubtful Constitutionality but he will filibuster a very commonsense approach from keeping terrorist away from American gun dealers to begin with. He is willing to kill as many Americans as it takes to get his way.
