URGENT: Syrian Army, Allies Capture Ancient Quaryatayn

The Syrian Army alongside the National Defense Forces, backed up by the Russian and Syrian Air Forces, ended ISIL’s rule over the ancient Assyrian town of Quaryatayn and freed the entire neighborhoods of the town after days of non-stop battle, army sources said minutes ago.

“The Syrian army and the popular forces pushed the ISIL back from its strongholds in Quaryatayn,” the sources said, adding, “The town is now under full control of the government force.”

“The ISIL terrorists are fleeing from the battlefield in large groups,” the sources added.

They further said that the government forces are fortifying their positions across the newly-liberated town.

“The army engineering units have started to defuse a large number of land mines and explosive devices planed by the terrorists in the town’s streets and building,” the sources said.

“The army is engaged in mop-up operations in the Western part of the town to hunt the remaining pockets of ISIL terrorists, who are trapped in the tight siege of government troops,” they added.

Earlier reports said that large-scale operations of the Syrian government forces in the Southwestern part of Homs province forced the ISIL terrorists to leave behind military equipment and wounded members and flee the Quaryatayn battlefront to save their lives, army sources said.

“The ISIL terrorists are retreating from their strongholds in the surroundings of the ancient town of Quaryatayn and moving towards Khanizir region in the Eastern side of Quaryatayn and the town of Kafir in the Southern side of Quaryatayn,” the sources said.

Syria in Last 24 Hours: Al-Nusra Front’s Massive Attacks on Army Positions Repelled in Aleppo

The Syrian army foiled an attempt by the al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorists to attack its military positions in Aleppo province.

The Al-Nusra Front terrorists were pushed back from their strongholds in Southwestern parts of Aleppo province.

Scores of Takfiri terrorists were killed and wounded in tough battle with the Syrian government forces.

The Syrian army and popular force also continued their military gains in other key provinces across Syria.

Aleppo

The Syrian Ground and Air Forces thwarted al-Nusra Front’s large-scale attacks on government forces’ strongholds in the Southwestern parts of Aleppo province and inflicted heavy death toll on the terrorists.

Massive assaults of the al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra Front on the Syrian army and Hezbollah’s positions near Tal al-Eis, Khan Touman and Tal Arbayeen were repelled by the Syrian army backed up by the Syrian fighter jets.

Al-Nusra terrorists crossed Idlib-Aleppo border and attacked the positions of the army and Hezbollah fighters, but their attempts to prevail over the government forces’ defense lines were badly failed.

The militant group exploded at least two suicide bomb-laden cars near the army positions in Tal al-Eis and shelled the town heavily in their mortar attacks.

The Syrian warplanes carried out several combat flights over al-Nusra military columns and hit them hard, which ended in the destruction of several military vehicles of the terrorist group.

Two notorious commanders of the terrorist groups, including a Saudi national, were killed in heavy fighting with the Syrian Army troops in two different battlefields in the Northern province of Aleppo.

The Syrian army fended off joint attack of the al-Nusra Front and the Free Syrian Army on government forces’ positions, which ended in the killing of many terrorists, including their Saudi commander Abu Mousa al-Jazrawi.

Meantime, the Syrian soldiers attacked the al-Sham Corps’ stronghold near Khan Touman in the Southwestern part of Aleppo province which claimed the lives of several terrorist, including their commander Safi Abu Nadim.

Raqqa

The Russian fighter jets carried out a number of airstrikes over past 24 hours, hitting several sites of the ISIL near the Hama-Raqqa axis in Northeastern Syria.

The Russian Air Force bombed heavily the Tabaqa Military Airport that is located in the Western part of Raqqa province and is used by the terrorist group to train new recruits and house a large number of their fighters.

The Russian Air Force has specifically targeted this military facility due to its strategic location and large stock of weapons, ammunition, and military supplies that the ISIL relies on. According to a military source from the Syrian Air Defense, the Russian fighter jets conducted several air raids over the Tabaqa Military Airport, striking any vehicles in the site.

The Russian air fleet also targeted the ISIL’s defense line in the Eastern part of Hama, killing a large number of ISIL combatants near Aqayrbat.

Homs

Syrian Army’s Mine Clearance Teams have demined several kilometers of a strategic highway connecting the recently liberated city of Palmyra and Deir Ezzur, military sources said.

“The demining of the road network around Palmyra continues. Syrian engineering units have demined four kilometers of the Palmyra-Deir Ezzur highway, clearing a total of 36 mines,” the sources said.

A report said on Thursday that the Syrian army defused hundreds of explosives and mines in Palmyra in one day of demining operation.

The army’s engineering unit demined over 1,000 mines and explosives in Palmyra.

The defused explosives included mines and roadside bombs laid by the ISIL terrorists before they fled Palmyra.

The Syrian Army and its popular allies have continued their advances against the ISIL terrorists in Western Homs province, inching closer to the ancient Assyrian town of Quaryatayn, military sources said Saturday.

“The Syrian Arab Army’s 43rd and 63rd brigades of the 4th Mechanized Division and popular forces have been storming the gates of Quaryatayn after launching a surprise assault at the Western perimeter of this ancient town this morning,” the sources said.

According to a military source from the 11th Tank Division, the Syrian Armed Forces managed to break-through the ISIL stiff lines of defense this morning, paving the way for them to reach Quaryatayn’s Western gates at 11 a.m. (Damascus Time).

The source further added that the Syrian Armed Forces received a major boost from the Russian helicopters that are participating in the battle for the first time.

The Syrian Army’s artillery and missile units opened heavy fire at the positions of the ISIL terrorists near the ancient Assyrian town of Quaryatayn in the Southwestern part of Homs province and forced them to remain behind their stronghold with the lowest military movements.

The Syrian artillery and missile shelling of the ISIL positions inflicted heavy casualties on the terrorists and did not leave any chance for them to regroup.

In the meantime, the Syrian fighter jets targeted ISIL gatherings and military vehicles in Quaryatayn.

Shelling and bombardment of the ISIL positions paved the way for the Syrian government forces to retake more lands near Quaryatayn.

Deir Ezzur

The Syrian fighter jets pounded and destroyed the gathering centers of the ISIL terrorist group in al-Jafreh village in Eastern Deir Ezzur, inflicting heavy losses on the Takfiri terrorists.

The ISIL’s military positions were razed down by the Syrian warplanes in al-Roshdiyah and al-Baqiliya regions in Deir Ezzur city as well as in Hosseiniyeh village in the Northern countryside of Deir Ezzur.

Scores of militants were killed and wounded in the Syrian airstrikes.

Hama

The Syrian Army troops have completed siege of at least three villages in Central Hama province, and are getting ready to launch the final phase of massive operations to free the militant-held region, battlefield sources said.

The ISIL supplying routes to the villages of Abu Habilat, al-Hardaneh and Tal Atmeh were cut off by the Syrian army men, which means the villages have fallen into the hands of the Syrian government forces.

The Syrian army continued its advances in the Eastern parts of Hama province, and came closer to a strategic village there.

The army units are now very close to seizing back the village of Abu al-Hanaya to the East of the city of Salamiyah.

Scores of ISIL Takfiri terrorists were killed and wounded in tough battle with the Syrian army and popular forces.
