(Before It's News)

If only there had been this level of cooperation during the primary run for the presidency, that narrowed field may have more adequately revealed the ludicrous notion of allowing a slow witted reality TV star to capture the GOP nomination.

As the news of Florida Senator Marco Rubio’s decision to run for reelection to the Senate hit on Wednesday, other contenders began to bow out.

Businessman Todd Wilcox announced his decision after the Florida freshman senator decided on Wednesday to run for re-election.

“With all that is at stake, I have decided to end my campaign for US Senate and support Marco Rubio in his bid to keep this seat in the GOP,” Wilcox tweeted.

Wilcox joins Reps. Ron DeSantis and David Jolly, who decided to pursue reelection to their congressional seats, and Florida Lt. Governor Carlos Lopez-Cantera, in stepping aside to make way for Rubio’s revived senatorial ambitions.

Currently, only businessman Carlos Beruff remains as a primary challenger.

Senator Rubio extended a gracious word of thanks for Wilcox’s support:

“Todd Wilcox has dedicated his life to serving this country and his community,” Rubio said. “As a former Special Forces commander and CIA veteran, Todd brought a unique skill set to this race. I’m grateful for his support, and I look forward to working with him to protect the Senate and conservative principles.”

After the August primary, whoever captures the Republican nod will face off against either establishment Democrat favorite, Rep. Patrick Murphy, or the detestable nutcase, Rep. Alan Grayson.

Current polling has Senator Rubio solidly ahead of either Democrat challenger, which will prove crucial heading into the general election, when protecting the down ballot for Republicans becomes an issue of great concern.
