French security forces have engaged in clashes with protesters who are marching through the streets of Paris against the government’s controversial labor reforms.
Scuffles broke out as protesters from all over France took part in a mass demonstration. The CGT Labor Union described the march as the biggest show of strength. Scuffles have repeatedly broken out between the protesters and the police in the past three months. French unions say the reform bill would undermine the standards of labor protection and makes it easier for employers to hire or fire. The government of President Francois Hollande argues that the reforms will tackle joblessness. Tuesday’s demonstration is held as French security forces are on high alert amid the EUFA 2016 football games.
