Trump Leaves the World Hanging

(Before It's News)

Well, that was anticlimactic. Pretty much the entire world expected that Trump would announce his VP today, that it would likely be Mike Pence, and that the announcement would be made at his joint appearance with the Indiana governor. The joint appearance happened, but the Pence VP announcement did not.

Of course, the question now becomes, “what next?” Well, by traditional political analysis, it would seem that Trump has decided to likely not choose Pence as his VP. If he were going to make that decision, why not make it now, at this time, at this campaign stop? If Trump were a typical politician, I think we would all likely assume that Pence didn’t get the nod. But of course, Trump is not a normal politician, and nobody can determine any rational reason for why he does 75% of the things he does, so maybe it will be Pence after all.

Of course, the biggest news of the day is that Fox News and Newt Gingrich announced that they have abruptly parted ways. This news is more meaningful than all the pre-announcement chatter and carefully orchestrated leaks that the Trump campaign has planted with the media. It suggests, at the very least, that Newt believes he is the VP choice and believes it strongly enough to give up his TV gig with Fox News. Granted, Newt probably has enough money and other irons in the fire that he doesn’t need the gig, even with all the alimony he is paying, and of course Fox News will take him back next week if this whole thing goes sideways, but it does suggest a level of seriousness in terms of actual actions that we’ve not yet seen from the other possibles.

And who knows? Maybe Trump isn’t being entirely full of crap when he says that he has two mystery candidates in mind that no one is talking about and of course there is still the specter of possible paid Kremlin operative Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn waiting in the wings.

I really doubt, at the end of the day, that Trump’s VP pick will cause any significant number of voters to vote for Trump (although it might cause some significant number to vote AGAINST him). Yet still, Trump definitely is milking the situation for as long as he possibly can.
