Israel extends detention term of Palestinian journalist
Israeli authorities have extended detention term of a Palestinian journalist who was due to be freed on Monday. According to Ramallah-based Palestinian Prisoners Club, Omar Nazzal’s detention without trial is extended for three more months. Nazzal was arrested in late April in the occupied West Bank near Jordan. He was planning to fly to a European Federation of Journalists gathering in Bosnia. He was charged with participation in a terrorist organization and an Israeli military court sentenced him to four months of administrative detention. According to advocacy groups, some 7000 Palestinians are being held in Israeli jails many of whom are in administrative detention. Under the policy, Israel can renew the jail term of Palestinians indefinitely without charge or trial.
