American intellectuals call for Israel’s boycott
In an open letter, over 70 scholars and media personalities have called for the boycott of all Israeli settlements as well as goods and services from there. The signatories of the letter, published in the New York Review of Books, include Bernard Avishai, Michael Walzer, Peter Brooks, Deborah Dash Moore and Adam Hochschild. It calls on the U-S government to exclude settlements from trade benefits accorded to Israeli enterprises. Israel’s ever-increasing settlements in Palestine have prompted an international outcry. One of the anti-Israel campaigns dubbed Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions or B-D-S started nearly a decade ago with the stated goal of bringing an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories. It has gained support across the globe

Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani said Israel and its regional allies are attempting to sideline the Israeli-Palestinian issue through escalating terrorist groups’ operations in the region.
“The most important attempt made by enemies is changing the threat calculus from the danger of the Zionist regime to the region to the self-made terrorist and Takfiri groups and unfortunately, the abundant efforts and propaganda of the Western and Israeli media in this regard have been effective,” Shamkhani said, addressing a gathering in Tehran on Tuesday.
He also warned of the Saudi regime’s political attempts and the Takfiri and terrorist groups’ acts to marginalize the Palestinian issue, and said all their plots have fallen flat by the preparedness of popular forces in Iraq, Syria and Yemen to fight against the enemies.
Such preparedness “has paved the ground for the materialization of the cause of the freedom of Palestine more than ever”, Shamkhani said.
In relevant remarks in January, top military aide to the Iranian Supreme Leader Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi said that the hostile policies of Saudi officials against Iran are adopted under Israel’s influence.
“The al-Saud policies are influenced by the Zionist regime and the regime is after fomenting insecurity, tumult and chaos in the region more than the US,” Safavi told reporters in Tehran.
Stressing that Israel’s influence on the al-Saud should be studied, he said Riyadh not only is killing people in Iraq and Syria by assisting the terrorists, but also has been fighting a 10-month-long war against Yemen.
“This is the Zionists’ policy,” Safavi added.
He called on the regional Muslim states to keep vigilant since Israel is after stirring tensions between Tehran and Riyadh.
