I Filled Out My Ballot For 2016 and I Voted For Evan McMullin

(Before It's News)

I will be in Washington D.C. on election day so for the first time since I began voting, I filled out an absentee ballot. The choice was easy for me. I voted for Evan McMullin.

Contrary to the hilarious notion that I am some brandy snifting member of the smart-set, DC insider, establishment cabal who hates Donald Trump, please note I was calling for conservatives to purge Trump from the ranks of the GOP back in April of 2014. I wrote:

There is no nice way to say this: Donald Trump is a clown. He’s a charlatan who cares about one thing, and one thing only: Donald Trump.

Not much has changed. Trump was and continues to be a horrible choice for Republican primary voters (along with help from Democrats in open primaries) to make. Hillary Clinton is without a doubt, the weakest Democratic candidate for office since Michael Dukakis. This is an election Republicans could have won rather easily with the right candidate.

Instead, they chose the clown candidate. Back in December of 2015, I wrote that I would not support Trump were he to be the GOP nominee. I’ve never wavered on that decision despite the attempting shaming of from-the-start Trump supporters to vote for him because of their sudden concern for the Supreme Court. If the Supreme Court were so important, they wouldn’t have voted for Donald Trump in the primaries. I don’t have some moral obligation to support Trump simply because Hillary Clinton is “worse.”

On the other hand, there is no way in hell I will vote for Hillary Clinton. I could devote an entire piece to why she is unfit for office, but I’ll just say that her penchant for lying, her quest for power and her vast corruption, made it impossible for me even to give her consideration.

I did consider voting for Gary Johnson. But over time he has proven to be a buffoon who lends credence to the argument that smoking marijuana destroys brain cells. His choice of liberal Republican Bill Weld, who seems more enamored with Hillary Clinton than libertarianism, is a horrible choice as a running mate for the Libertarian Party ticket.

There is the choice to abstain from voting at all aside from down-ballot races, but I think it is important to vote for President if you’re well aware of the issues and have a good understanding of what the candidate’s positions are.

That is why I voted for Evan McMullin.

People are giving out the wrong impression that a vote for a write-in candidate is a “waste of time” since he has little chance to win. That isn’t why we vote. I voted for the candidate who best represents me. That is why we vote. Evan McMullin, on issue after issue, represents me better than anybody else in the presidential race.

I have not only looked over what McMullin stands for and what he believes, but I had the honor of talking with him for nearly an hour and getting beyond the usual sound bites found in 5-minute interviews. What I found was a man who believed the same as I do, that neither Hillary Clinton nor Donald Trump is fit for the office of President of The United States.

Evan McMullin represents a choice for many of us who want to be proud of who we voted for.

Evan McMullin is a certified write-in candidate in the state of Georgia for President of The United States. When my absentee ballot arrived, my decision was an easy one.

I voted for Evan McMullin, and I am proud to have done so.
