Remember When the Presidency Had Dignity?

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is the mark of a leader.

This is dignity and grace.

This has been missed, and we need to find some way back.

Yes, those words were the words of our 41st president, George H.W. Bush, to his successor, Bill Clinton.
There was no partisan bickering or animosity. They were content to leave it all behind them, once the American people had their say at the polls.
This was one person, speaking from the well of his heart, extending grace to another.

Years later, the elder Bush and Clinton would join together to do charity work for Haiti and other disadvantaged areas. They formed a bond that some described as almost like a father-son relationship.

The ugliness and partisan rancor of this election season should make all good people long for those days again.

I certainly do.
