Mom Chooses Life for Lynlee

A rare tumor on her baby girl’s coccyx bone was cutting off the blood supply to her heart and cardiac arrest was imminent. Margaret Boemer’s doctors offered what they felt was the prudent resolution: abort. They provided LynLee’s parents with no other option.

Although other doctors had advised her to terminate the pregnancy, Cass [co-director of Texas Children’s Fetal Center] and his team told her about another possibility: fetal surgery. This option, though, would not be an easy road. Even worse, her baby’s chances of survival would be grim. – CNN

Now tooled with choices, LynLee Boemer’s parents had to choose.

“LynLee didn’t have much of a chance,” Boemer said. “At 23 weeks, the tumor was shutting her heart down and causing her to go into cardiac failure, so it was a choice of allowing the tumor to take over her body or giving her a chance at life.

“It was an easy decision for us: We wanted to give her life.”

Below the Fold

Donald Trump might soon be twiddling his thumbs instead of tweeting. In truth, like Trump, Twitter’s collapse is in its failure to expand its base. A slew of brands, Google, Disney, and Apple have expressed interest in buying the unprofitable company, but each one backed out. As soon as this week, Twitter could be eliminating 300 jobs to trim down with hopes of beefing up its stock which dropped 40% in the past 12 months.

Harvard University students protest dining hall workers $33,800/year wage. The service employees have been negotiating for four months requesting a raise and free-er health insurance.  The college currently pays 87% of their employees premium, and their hourly wage is $21.89. Kudos to the student’s peaceful protest. They’re reviving the 2011 “Occupy” movement and occupying the dining hall lobby awaiting the news.

Today in History, 25 October 1962.

“I am prepared to wait for my answer until hell freezes over.”

One of the most remembered lines to have come from a United Nations Security Council meeting was delivered on this day by Adlai Stevenson, the United States Ambassador to the United Nations. Typically mild-mannered Stevenson confronts Valerian Zorin, in effect mousetrapping the Soviet Representative into admitting to stockpiling ballistic missiles in Cuba. Zorin, however, never capitulates. Stubbornly he stays the course, finally arguing against the photographs’ validity.
