Democrats Only Want Electoral College Reform When They Lose

(Before It's News)

The news media happily keeps reporting Hillary Clinton’s popular vote total as if it means anything in the scheme of things. Donald Trump won via the electoral college, so Hillary Clinton’s popular vote total is irrelevant. That it may grow to be 2 million votes is still irrelevant. The popular vote is more irrelevant when considering she leads Trump by 1.5 million votes in New York and nearly 3 million in California.

Andrea’s post has the graphic showing how a popular vote election would come down to four states. Naturally, if the US electoral system changed to a straight popular vote, it’s no guarantee Hillary would win because the nature of campaigning will completely change.

Still, that hasn’t stopped some Democrats from trying to get 37 electors to change their votes and to use it as a means of upending the current system:

At least a half-dozen Democratic electors have signed onto an attempt to block Donald Trump from winning an Electoral College majority, an effort designed not only to deny Trump the presidency but also to undermine the legitimacy of the institution.

The presidential electors, mostly former Bernie Sanders supporters who hail from Washington state and Colorado, are now lobbying their Republican counterparts in other states to reject their oaths — and in some cases, state law — to vote against Trump when the Electoral College meets on Dec. 19.

Democrats are all about violating the law so long as it as a means to their end.

I was talking about this on a podcast recently. In a few months, this will all die down, so any movement to do away with the electoral college will die out as expected. Still, to watch Democrats blubber and whine about it is ironic. They’re the party that supposedly looks out for the minority. They claim to understand the power of the simple majority and the harm it can do.

Unless they lose.
