Popular Forces Win Back Control of All Tal Afar Gateways from ISIL
All gateways and passages leading to Tal Afar have been taken back by Hashd al-Sha’abi (Iraqi popular forces), a prominent Iraqi security analyst said.
“The Hashd al-Sha’abi forces have liberated all gateways and passages of Tal Afar region in Western Mosul and have imposed full control over them,” Ahmad al-Sharifi told FNA on Monday.
He said that the achievement was made in the sixth phase of Hashd al-Sha’abi operations after liberating several strategic and important villages and regions.
Sharifi also underlined that the Iraqi forces are preparing for a major battle against the ISIL to fully regain control of the Tal Afar region.
Earlier today, a local source in Nineveh Province revealed that the ISIL terror group has withdrawn its last main headquarters in Central Tal Afar, West of Mosul, while pointed out that the group besieged a residential neighborhood in the district after the escape of three prisoners.
The source in the Iraqi military said the ISIL group closed its last main headquarters, known as the black building in Tal Afar District, which had been under ISIL control, after the terror group took over the district in 2014, Al Sumariya reported.
“The ISIL group also besieged a residential neighborhood in the Eastern vicinity of Tal Afar District, after the escape of three prisoners from a detention center belonging to the group,” the source added on condition of anonymity.
The ISIL retreat from its strategic bases in Tal Afar comes at the time that Iraqi security forces continue liberating the remaining areas held by the terror group in the city of Mosul, after inflicting heavy human and material losses on the group.

Clashes Erupt between Syrian Army, Turkey-Backed Militants near Al-Bab
Media sources reported clashes erupted between the Syrian Army troops and Ankara-backed militants of the Euphrates Shield Operation in the town of al-Bab East of Aleppo province.
Sham times news website reported that the army soldiers have been engaged in heavy fighting with forces of the Turkey-led Euphrates Shield Operation near the town of al-Bab on Sunday night.
Sham times added that regions between the town of Tadif that was captured by the Syrian army yesterday and the Southern outskirts of al-Bab have been witnessing a second round of fierce clashes between the army soldiers and Turkey-backed militants.
The clashes came after the army men managed to take control over the key town of Tadif South of al-Bab.
Reports said earlier today that the army men engaged in fierce clashes with ISIL North of the town of Qasr al-Brij and managed to drive the terrorists out of the towns of Nabateh al-Saqireh and Nabateh al-Kabireh.
ISIL suffered heavy casualties in the attack.
A field source said that the army men kicked off their attack on ISIL positions from the towns of Masriheh and Qasr al-Brij and from there they could hit terrorists’ defense lines and capture Nabateh al-Saqireh and Nabateh al-Kabireh.
The source added that the army soldiers are about to continue their operation and free the towns of Khirbet al-Zib, Ji’eh, al-Lawa, Jubb al-Sultan, Jubb al-Homam, Sakeriyeh al-Saqireh, Tafriheh al-Saqireh and Tafriheh al-Kabireh.
According to the source, the advances of the army and its allies are poised towards Kurdish positions. “The resistance forces are only 8km away from the Kurdish forces’ positions South of the town of Manbij.”
The newly-liberated town of Nabateh al-Saqireh is just 8km to the town of Houteh in Manbij area that is controlled by the Kurds.
