All you need to know about SuperBowl Sunday LI!

Nah, but I’ll tell you what I do know.
The Basics
At 6:30pm, Sunday, February 5, the 51st SuperBowl will be played between the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons. The Championship game will be play out at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas or your local Fox affiliate station.

National Anthem
ACM and CMA winner Luke Bryan will sing The Star-Spangled Banner.

Half-Time Show
Pepsi Zero Sugar” will be performed by Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, aka Lady Gaga.  Tony Bennett will join Gaga in some capacity. He will either be on-stage live or via video feed. As with most things Gaga, much of the show is unknown. The rumor mill is swirling wildly. We’re to anticipate a political spin to the show, although “an unknown source” insists she has no interest in bringing up Trump. Included in the entertainer’s contract to host the Half-time show is a ditty about adhering to “the league’s standards of decorum.” In other words, keep your clothes on and your middle-finger down.

Super Bowl Ads

Who cares about stupid football? It’s the ads, man! It’s the ads! Without the time-out, injury, sidelined entertainment, the Championship game would be, meh. That’s their aim, anyway. Some might say, it is as it should be given the $5m / 30-second price tag.
The best commercials are aired on game-day, but here are a few stand-outs.
Budweiser insists their ad is not activism. Judge for yourselves.

This Kia ad is great! I love Melissa McCarthy and a little bit of earth-saving plug light-hearted.

I’ve got to be honest. I picked this one for the dog. I love my boxer!

I Love this commercial.

North Korea’s Dear Leader fired a key aide for “corruption, abuse of power and human rights abuses.” What egregious act could the head of DPRK’s Military Security Command (similar to our CIA) have committed to be singled out as “corrupt.” Really, now. How could Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un distinguish one corrupt aide from another corrupt aide? At least Kim Won-hong wasn’t executed by anti-aircraft guns.

“Sources told South Korea’s JoongAng Ilbo newspaper that Kim Yong-jin made the mistake of falling asleep in a meeting with Mr. Kim.

‘He incurred the wrath of Kim after he dozed off during a meeting that Kim presided over,’ the newspaper quoted the source as saying.

‘He was arrested on-site and intensively questioned by the state security ministry,’ the paper claimed. ‘He was executed after other charges, such as corruption, were found during the probe.’”

Virtual Reality used as an anesthetic. Shiny Object Syndrome isn’t really a bad thing. A surgeon in Mexico City is using his teenage son’s mode of distraction to help his patients avoid costly painkillers and stress by strapping a VR headset on their head. It sounds goofy, but two hundred patients later, and the alternative reality is a hit.

“A 54-year-old surgeon at Panamerican University in Mexico City, he’s on a mission to bring virtual reality into the operating room. Mosso is using VR as a high-tech distraction technique, allowing surgeons to carry out operations that would normally require powerful painkillers and sedatives, with nothing more than local anaesthetic. He’s trying to prove that reducing drug doses in this way not only slashes costs for Mexico’s cash-strapped hospitals, but cuts complications and recovery times for patients too.”

Today is National The Day the Music Died Day. Today in 1959 Buddy Holly chartered a Beechcraft Bonanza for his band and a couple of others to hop between gigs after Holly’s band bus broke down. Due to poor weather and likely inexperience, the pilot was unable to maintain control of his aircraft, and it crashed in an Iowa cornfield soon after departure; there were no survivors.

In 1971, Don McClean wrote, “American Pie” referring to the tragic death of a few talented and even though very young, successful men. Buddy Holly was 22 years old when he died; Ritchie Valens was 17; and, J.P. Richardson was 28.
