(Before It's News)

It will be like John Oliver’s show, but with two American Guys. Saturday Night Live which has gotten a boost in ratings in the “Age of Trump”, is looking to spin off their news parody segment into a stand alone weekly show, Politico is reporting.

NBC LOOKS TO SPIN OFF WEEKLY “WEEKEND UPDATE” — NBC is in talks to air a 30-minute primetime weekly edition of “Saturday Night Live’s” “Weekend Update.” With Alec Baldwin’s impression of the president, SNL’s popularity has exploded in the Trump era. A stand-alone “Weekend Update” show could help NBC capitalize on a topsy turvy news cycle. “Variety” reports that SNL is up 22 percent in viewership — its strongest start to a season in more than two decades, our colleagues at Morning Media note. The scuttlebutt is the show might air Thursday evenings later this year. An NBC spokeswoman did not respond to a request for comment

Apparently, The Daily Show, Full Frontal, Late Night with Steve Colbert and the aforementioned, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, don’t offer enough satirical news for the liberals. They think we need more of it.

This isn’t the first time SNL has attempted to spin off the “Weekend Update” segment into a full length show, in 2001 SNL aired a primetime special after the Super Bowl, then in 2008 did a Saturday Night Live “Weekend Update Thursday” that aired leading up to the election of Barack Obama. they picked up the show again in the months prior to the 2012 election as well. If one only looked at the timing of these “specials” one might wonder if SNL had a political agenda beyond ratings.

The Spicer routine harkened back to SNL’s better days. Baldwin’s Trump was just boring, then devolved into depressing. It will fail or their snowflake audience will start offing themselves and with ratings and all, it will fail.
