Tribalism has made a mess of modern day politics. We witnessed it in both the Democratic and Republican primaries. We saw the factions split up, not just for the candidate of their choice, but in vehement opposition to other candidates. At least for the most part.
Generally, most Republicans likely would have backed any of the candidates that entered the GOP race. Donald Trump got 63 million votes in the general election
