Khizr Khan’s Claims About Travel Restrictions Are Likely Garbage
Gold Star dad, Khizr Khan, has canceled a speech in Toronto that was scheduled to happen on Tuesday and appears to be blaming it on Trump’s new travel ban as a political stunt more than being based in reality.
Mr. Khan offered his sincere apologies to all those who made plans to attend on March 7th. He said: ‘This turn of events is not just of deep concern to me but to all my fellow Americans who cherish our freedom to travel abroad. I have not been given any reason as to why. I am grateful for your support and look forward to visiting Toronto in the near future.’
Khan offered no further details when asked to clarify by Canadian and American news outlets.
However, the entire notion that Khan’s reason for not going to Toronto is because of Donald Trump is specious out of hand. Khan has been an American citizen for over 30 years and as such, has the right to travel in and out of the country at will, barring some kind of criminal enforcement against him.
As an immigration attorney, Khan knows this.
Add to this the fact that neither the United States or Canada pre-warns people about whether or not they may enter the country until you arrive at a port of entry. Khan, as an immigration attorney, would know this.
There is the possibility that some kind of a work-based visa was applied for in Canada and was delayed for some reason or another. But again, that would have nothing to do with Trump’s travel ban or the United States.
It honestly sounds like Khizr Khan didn’t feel like going to Canada this week and found a flimsy excuse not to that would play well to his anti-Trump fans.
