The Media Attempt To Turn Sessions Flap Into A Plot Line For ‘The Americans’ Is Pathetic

(Before It's News)

If you only watched Morning Joe to get coverage of issues related to Attorney General Jeff Sessions and his contact with the Russians during the 2016 campaign, you might think it was the writers and producers of ‘The Americans,’ sitting around, trying to figure out a new story line.

Writer 1: What if we somehow involve a guy who people are pretty sure will have a high-level post in the future administration?

Writer 2: Yeah. Like a Senator meeting with the Russian ambassador who is actually a KGB agent!

Writer 1: Exactly! And during that brief discussion, they plot a way to fix the election, so their preferred candidate wins!

Writer 2: Perfect!

However, this is real life, and things are likely a whole lot more boring and mundane. I don’t like Trump’s coziness with Putin, or his hand-waving of Putin’s role in killing journalists with the, “We kill people too” excuses. The whole thing stinks, especially after it’s been proven that Mitt Romney was right about Russia being a big foe. They are not an ally and shouldn’t be trusted.

That said, the breathless way in which the media is attempting to make this out to be something it is not is fascinating to watch. Check out how John Heilemann explains Sessions meeting with the Russian ambassador, during the Republican National Convention:

In reality, it’s not all that exciting. From The Washington Post:

Two months before the September meeting, Sessions attended a Heritage Foundation event in July on the sidelines of the Republican National Convention that was attended by about 50 ambassadors. When the event was over, a small group of ambassadors approached Sessions as he was leaving the podium, and Kislyak was among them, the Justice Department official said.

Sessions then spoke individually to some of the ambassadors, including Kislyak, the official said. In the informal exchanges, the ambassadors expressed appreciation for his remarks and some of them invited him to events they were sponsoring, said the official, citing a former Sessions staffer who was at the event.

Oh. Yawn.

Once again, the media is going down rabbit trails, attempting to make news instead of reporting news. There are far more important aspects of the Trump/Russia connection to be investigated. Attempting to turn Jeff Sessions into some stooge for the Kremlin is not one of them.
