Flashback: Elizabeth Warren Supported ‘Nuclear Option’ in 2012, 2013 (Video)

(Before It's News)

Democrats have been losing their minds lately over the thought of Republicans using the “nuclear option” to avoid a filibuster and appoint Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court.

The “nuclear option” is a rarely used procedure that allows the U.S. Senate to override a rule or precedent by a 51-vote majority.

The rule was most famously used in 2013 when then Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid used it to confirm former President Obama’s cabinet nominees with a simple vote.

Elizabeth Warren has also been one of the loudest critics against Republicans using the “nuclear option,” which is odd given she supported using it in 2012 and 2013 to help Obama.

In 2012 and 2013, Warren called for Democrats to “go nuclear” to change filibuster rules and confirm federal judges under the Obama administration.

In 2013, Warren went on the Senate floor to chastise Republicans that would not cast a single vote in favor of Obama’s judicial nominations.

“If Republicans continue to filibuster these highly qualified nominees for no reason other than to nullify the president’s constitutional authority, then senators not only have the right to change the filibuster rules, senators have a duty to change the filibuster rules,” Warren said at the time.

In 2012, Warren penned an op-ed in the Huffington Post urging the use of the “nuclear option” in order to kill the filibuster rule in the Senate.

“On the first day of the new session in January [2013], the senators will have a unique opportunity to change the filibuster rule with a majority vote, rather than the normal two-thirds vote,” Warren wrote.

Doesn’t this script sound eerily similar to what we are seeing today? She’s flip-flopping now that the rule goes against her agenda.

Senate Democrats ultimately used the nuclear option in 2013 to push forward most presidential nominations, excluding any that pertain to the Supreme Court.

Senate Democrats restructured the rules to stop Republican efforts to block Obama’s judicial nominations.

Warren is now strongly advocating that Republicans avoid using the nuclear option, arguing that Republicans would be “threatening” and “bullying” if they moved forward with this action.

Here’s Warren in her own words speaking in favor of the “nuclear option.”

Democrats successfully voted to filibuster Gorsuch on Thursday, forcing Republicans to either go nuclear or pick another individual for the high court.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell made it clear that Judge Neil Gorsuch will be confirmed to the Supreme Court this week one way or another.

It appears we are going nuclear.
