More Free Stuff: New York Approves Bill To Make Four Year College Tuition Free

(Before It's News)

So the liberal bastion of New York is about to see how much “free” actually costs.

I’m actually pretty excited for all the hard left psychopaths that have been given a platform to indoctrinate the youth in New York universities, as we see how this affects their bottom line.

In a budget package approved on Sunday night, New York will now foot the bill for four year college tuition for state residents, making it the first state to experiment with this level of social justice.

Governor Andrew Cuomo touted the program, pointing out that college these days is the equivalent of what high school used to be.

Yeah, because a continuous lowering of standards, in order to make everybody feel special has forced us to become a nation of underachievers.

From NBC News:

The state’s Excelsior Scholarship program will be rolled out in tiers over the next three years, starting with full coverage of four-year college tuition this fall for students whose families make less than $100,000.

The income cap will increase to $110,000 in 2018 and $125,000 in 2019.

Around 80 percent of New York families currently qualify for this program. It will be included on the FAFSA forms for the next Spring semester, so they plan to drop right into this thing.

There is no age limit for the program; students must be enrolled full-time with an average of at least 30 credits per year and meet the minimum GPA requirement for their program.

The state is also investing $8 million in electronic books in order to lower costs for students, a spokesperson for Cuomo’s office told NBC News.

This is very much a union of Cuomo and Senator Bernie Sanders, the admitted Socialist, who called the program a “revolutionary idea.”

“Higher education in America should be a right for all, not a privilege for the few,” Sanders said in an April 3rd statement. “If we are to succeed in a highly competitive global economy and have the best-educated workforce in the world, public colleges and universities must become tuition-free for working families and we must substantially reduce student debt.”

Except we won’t have the “best-educated” workforce in the world if the standards have been lowered, to the point that, as Cuomo suggested, our colleges are like what high school used to be. It doesn’t matter how much free stuff you throw at the people.

The state has about $7.5 billion to invest in this project, but if 80 percent of the population of New York qualify for it now, and they will be progressively adding to it, by allowing for higher and higher income, how quickly will that $7.5 billion be burned through, and then where do they go for funds?

Just a side note of interest: Bernie Sanders’ wife, Jane Sanders, once bankrupted the small Vermont college where she served as president. So, there’s that.
