I hate the term “New Years Resolution”. Not only does it sound corny, but it has become commercialized. We see television ads (mostly from fitness clubs) on how to keep true to our resolution of getting in shape. Join this week and get some bull crap in return. Whatever they are selling, it isn’t anything that will be life changing. I’m not saying that you should not work on your physical fitness, just follow where I am going with this. We are going to talk about what you should include in your goals for 2014.
Last year was rough for many folks with issues such as the job market, government shutdown, people acting like animals with a “knockout game”, and we ended the year with over one million people losing their unemployment benefits. Quite a stellar year wouldn’t you say? I appreciate each and every one of our readers because you can relate to this. We receive feedback from some of our readers on how they cannot afford to put food on the table, let alone purchase preparedness supplies. When you hear stories like this, it is easy to lose hope. But maybe this year things can change.
I hate fear mongering! It is what gives preparedness a negative stereotype and fuels cause for alarm. I remember years ago I wrote an article titled, The Original Preppers, and it referenced the early Native Americans. They prepared for whatever came their way. This was accomplished with skills and knowledge that had been passed down generations and it did not include the worry and panic of an EMP or terrorist attack. While there may have been discussion of attacks from rivals, they didn’t dwell on the possibility. Since that time, our society has changed greatly and we live in a much more unpredictable world.
On New Years Day a woman was killed because she answered a knock at her front door. You can read the article here. While we can’t say this was an isolated incident because the article mentions there were two other of same shootings in the area. If the knockout game wasn’t bad enough, now we have to contend with more stupidity. I am not trying to spread fear or tell you to beat down whoever knocks at your door, I want our readers to be informed. Intel is a vital element of preparedness and this is what we are here for. This is just an example of what is going on out there.
So what does all this have to do with goals for 2014? If you haven’t done so already, make plans to get up and be more active this year. Make every effort to learn new skills and gain knowledge that will be priceless. While we will talk about this throughout the year, it will be up to you to implement this into your life. Here are some ideas to up your skill set this year:
I hope this may help you with your goals for this new year. Shameless plug, our new magazine will have not only have great content, but we are building a community in which our readers can be a part of. We will report on events throughout the year, and hopefully there will be something close by in which you can participate in. We are always looking for feedback from you, so if you have any ideas or want to share your goals for 2014, please feel free to do so below. Stay safe and we wish you and your families a safe and prosperous 2014!!
