(Before It's News)

Americans live in a country where water and electricity can easily be accessed with a simple flick of a switch or turning of a faucet. But, what would happen if these services were suddenly not available for long periods of time?

Blackouts occasionally happen, sometimes to large areas of the country. Northeast portions of the country were affected by losses of electricity in 1965 and 2003. New York City and surrounding areas experienced a dramatic blackout in 1977 that lasted over a week in some locales.

In order to reduce risk of wide spread blackouts, the nation’s electrical grid is largely interconnected. Sometimes, the system can create strains on the grid when parts of it do go down, possible increasing the number of areas affected by blackouts.

Chris Weatherman is the author of a best-selling book series called “Going Home.” He wrote the work under the pseudonym of Angery American. He has a fan base of millions of readers, and several channels are interested in adopting some of his works for television.

Weatherman is our guest on the show today. He is here to talk to us about the utility grid, and what could happen during a large scale blackout. We will talk about some of the possible causes that could trigger such an event, as well as how people might react. Finally, we will discuss Going Home and his upcoming projects.
