(Before It's News)

The Direct Debit industry specialists at SmartDebit have commented on news that more FTSE 100 companies have signed up to the Prompt Payment Code.

(PRWEB UK) 20 October 2012

The Prompt Payment Code (PPC) was set up to ensure that small to medium enterprises receive payments within a reasonable timeframe. A campaign fronted by Debbie Abrahams, an MP for Oldham East and Saddleworth invited the 75 top 100 FTSE companies who weren’t already signed up to the Code to do so. Entitled “Be Fair- Pay On Time” the operation was backed by the Institute of Credit Management, The Federation of Small Businesses and The Forum of Private Businesses.

Following the campaign, a further 10 companies signed up to the agreement. Providing Direct Debit services to small businesses across the UK, SmartDebit were naturally intrigued by this latest news stories. A representative from the Surrey-based firm shares his thoughts on the subject.

“Smaller businesses and organisations can really suffer from late payments, so it’s really encouraging to see more FTSE firms signing up to the Prompt Payment Code. SMEs concerned about late payments would be well advised to look into the benefits of Direct Debit. Working with a provider such as SmartDebit allows these companies to improve their control, cash flow and time management.”

However, a further four companies refused to sign the agreement, with sixty companies not responding altogether. Disappointed with this lack of empathy for SMEs, the team at SmartDebit are hopeful that of those companies which are yet to reply, more come forward in favour of the agreement.

The SmartDebit team look forward to following the progress of this story.
