Ruth Reid-Thornton, MD, specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation at New Era Medicine PLLC, and affiliated with Mount Sinai Medical Center, has been named a 2016 Top Doctor in Staten Island, New York. Top Doctor Awards is dedicated to selecting and honoring those healthcare practitioners who have demonstrated clinical excellence while delivering the highest standards of patient care.
Dr. Ruth Reid-Thornton has been in practice for nearly 25 years, and in this time she has become one of the foremost physiatrists in New York. Her medical career had its beginnings in 1991 when she graduated from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C. This was followed by an internship also at Howard Hospital, before she moved to New York for a residency at SUNY Brooklyn University Hospital which was completed in 1995.
Dr. Reid-Thornton is board certified in both Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and in Integrative Medicine, and she is an expert in holistic medicine as well as in traditional physical medicine and rehabilitation treatments. As well as commonly treating a variety of sports injuries, Dr. Reid-Thornton treats a wide range of conditions, from arthritis, to back paint, joint pain, fibromyalgia, and musculoskeletal disorders.
In her near quarter century as a physiatrist, Dr. Reid-Thornton has risen to the heights of her profession. She says that the secret of her success is that she listens to her patients, and creates bespoke treatment plans for each after a relevant physical examination has been carried out. She is never afraid to use evidence-based alternative therapies alongside traditional medicine, and this has brought excellent results for her patients. It’s this boundary-pushing philosophy that makes Dr. Ruth Reid-Thornton such a worthy winner of a 2016 Top Doctor Award.
