(Before It's News)

Three years ago we descended on Houston City Hall and began our occupation of public space. In those three years, little has changed, the state of the planet has only gotten worse.

Since then, we’ve faced greater economic inequality than ever before in human history, new wars along with their propaganda, destructive attacks on the reproductive rights of women, the rise of the police state along with increases in police violence, and a looming student debt crisis.

Our planet and all the creatures we share it with are dying. Capitalism is murdering us, all of us. Rich and poor, Muslim and Christian, Republican and Democrat, we all face the same fate. Corporations have turned our entire planet, including our lives, into commodities to be bought and sold, exploited and thrown away. We have become mere cogs in a machine. We are as replaceable as the batteries in a remote. The oceans are not replaceable, nor the rainforests. The ice is melting and the clock is ticking. The time is now. Action is our imperative.

Three years ago we dared to dream, to dream of a world where workers are paid a living wage, where the wealth of a nation is judged not by its GDP, but by how it treats its sick and indigent. We dreamt of a world without borders, a world in which poor nations were lifted up instead of exploited for their natural resources and cheap labor. We dreamt of a world without violence or hate.

Today, that world may seem like a fantasy, but now, more than ever, it is a possibility. The tides are shifting. People the world over are waking up to the struggle for a better future. From Ferguson to Hong Kong, Palestine to New York City, Athabasca to Houston, the time is now.

We can change the course of history, we already have. We hold the future in our hands. Occupy isn’t dead, it assimilated back into society. We are your brothers and sisters, your mothers and fathers, your best friend and a friendly stranger. If we stay united in solidarity, another world is not only possible it’s inevitable.

In peace, love, and solidarity,
Occupy Houston
