Vasectomies Are Cheaper and Safer Than Female Sterilization — So Why Don’t More Men Get Them? Tubal ligation, the most common method of female sterilization, costs three to four times as much as a vasectomy. Women are five times as likely to die from sterilization than men. More than one third of married Indian women undergo sterilization, versus just 1% of Indian men. Around the world, more women than men undergo the procedure.

Thoughts on Carrrying Capacity and Sustainability. The Earth’s “natural” carrying capacity for terrestrial vertebrate life is probably in the neighbourhood of 200 million tonnes. This represents the carrying capacity based on solar input only, with no assistance from human technology or fossil fuels. Humans currently have an environmental impact almost 600 times as high as this baseline. And that implies that a correction in our numbers and activity levels is inevitable. The longer we proceed down the current road of technological, energetic and numerical expansion, the closer we come to that correction.
