An increasing number of media outlets are giving their take on the hottest Apple related rumor of this year. The iPad Mini, a tablet that is hyped enough as it is, regardless of the fact that it’s coming in to being is still not a done deal. Nevertheless, there have been countless rumors about this device from all sorts of sources. Today the Wall Street Journal published an article in which it claims that Apple is directing suppliers to get prepared for mass production of iPad Mini.
Most of the components that go in Apple products are manufactured by suppliers based in Asia. Even though Apple and it’s suppliers operate under strict security, a few leaks here and there are bound to happen along the way. Usually, the information obtained from these sources is credible. The WSJ is a credible media outlet, and it’s report of today backs that of Bloomberg’s, which states that an iPad Mini is coming out in October.
According to this report, Apple’s component suppliers are being briefed ahead of the iPad Mini mass production. Given Apple’s strict rules of doing business, it’s suppliers not only have to provide the components on time, but also manufacture them according to the quality guidelines of Apple. Therefore it can’t be ruled out that suppliers are not briefed at any given point in time, before mass production. Hence there could be a shred of credibility to this report. Nevertheless, the iPad Mini release date is still shrouded in a cloud of mystery.
According to recent rumors, Apple intends to release this mini tablet in October. It should be kept in mind that the iPhone is due for a refresh in October as well. Will Apple end up announcing both of these products at one single event in October? Apple has rarely done such a thing in the past. The past is long gone though, and so is the individual that ran Apple’s ship. Now there’s a new CEO at the helm. Can this be the first dual product launch event of the post Steve Jobs, Tim Cook era?
Ever since Google announced Nexus 7, the iPad Mini rumors have escalated. The only reason while Apple is believed to be making this device is because it wants to infiltrate the mid range tablet market, currently dominated by Kindle Fire and soon to be captured by Nexus 7. If this really is the case, can the iconic “one more thing…” at the next generation iPhone release in October be the iPad Mini? Only time will tell.
