India’s largest e-commerce giant, Flipkart, is playing it big with numbers, the context being the sales and profits. Going by the recent reports in RadioAndMusic.com, we learn that Flipkart, in July 2012, has posted overall revenues of over Rs. 100 Crore. FlipKart has reached a new financial milestone, monopolizing the e-commerce market.
Flipkart’s own digital music download service “Flyte” is the talk of the town. Since its inception in February 2012, it claims to have achieved a staggering 60000 downloads; five months flat, getting itself the label, “iTunes of India“. Sameer Nigam, VP, Digital, Flipkart, said, “Flipkart crossed one billion in revenue last month. If you consider that our song track price averages around Rs 10 and 600,00 downloads in 5 months, Flyte is aggregating just one percent of the overall sales right now.” Flyte was launched with a million tracks in the directory, which aims to shoot up to 5million in the coming two months.
Flipkart, which started off as an online book store, later on ventured into e-commerce of goods, such as belts, bags and white goods like Camera’s and mobile phones. Flipkart is on an expanding spree where the e-commerce giant has come up with a new venture towards baby products and Digital accessories its newest launch DigiFlip which offers a wide range of accessories like Laptop skins, camera bags and so on.
