Authors are to sue Google for their project with book digitalization, and are demanding a mighty $750 for every book scanned for the project, and have distributed the allied, which was demanded on the behalf of New York based US Federal District court. The authors suing the search engine giant claim that Google is violating the copy right law and the fair use as well. The team of authors against the massive digitalization project of their books are led by Scott Turow, the president.
While the Google states that the company is providing a platform for the users to know the books, and find the one interesting to them; it is also a way to borrow or buy the books a digitalized marketing for the books- a venture to introduce books in a wider range. The spokesperson also cleared that the fair use is completely followed and constituted in the project, and therefore, dismissed that claim by the Authors team.
The issue was settled in March 2011 with $125 million, but was rejected by Judge Denny Chin, as he found the venture quite appealing, and with the belief that the project will prove beneficiary to the libraries and authors with the scanning technology and the scanned books’ availability, as it could probe a reader to read the work for which he/she will have to either borrow or buy them; so, the authors get a free publicity for their creations, and can’t really take their side for the compensation demand.
The authors’ guide introduces over 8000 creators, and is currently competing against Apple’s DOJ and Amazon for the prices for the e-books.
