Apple’s upcoming 6th-gen iPhone (and allegedly mildly revamped iPad and next-gen iPod Touch) will reportedly be getting a new, smaller dock connector this fall. Current rumors have varied in pin count, ranging between 8-~19 pins. But if new images leaked by nowhereelse.fr are legit, it appears that we are indeed looking at a tiny dock connector with just 8 pins.
Of course, these images if real contradict iOS 6′s own source code. 9to5 Mac writer Mark Gurman discovered references to “9-pin” buried within the upcoming OS’s source code.
Legit or not, our interest is piqued as the images seem to depict a dock connector that can be inserted either way and still work. We’ll know soon enough…
