Rumor: Droid RAZR HD Won’t Have A “MAXX” Version.

(Before It's News)

The RAZR MAXX is the king of battery life in the smartphone world. And even with a class dominating 3,300 mAh battery, it’s still just a couple mm thicker than the standard RAZR and only a tiny bit thicker than the iPhone 4/4S. Rumors pointed towards a new RAZR HD/MAXX hitting the market this fall, packing upgraded hardware with the MAXX version carrying the same (or very similar) 3,300 mAh battery. Today, however, rumors are suggesting a MAXX version may not, in fact, be in the pipeline and that the upgrades are much more minor than originally believed.

According to a Phonearena tipster, the DROID RAZR HD will ship with an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera accompanied by an LED flash – not a 13-megapixel uber camera as originally believed. Furthermore, the non-MAXX RAZR HD will ship with a higher than average 2,530 mAh battery to make up for the lack of a MAXX version. Woah…What! Yup. According to the latest info, Motorola will not being doing a special MAXX version of the RAZR HD and instead meet customers in the middle with the aforementioned battery. Some minor disappointment can also be found in the fact that ICS, not Jelly Bean, will be the shipping version with a follow-up update to Jelly Bean coming later on down the road.

For Android junkies looking at a possible RAZR HD/HD MAXX purchase, the upgrades are starting to look a bit unimpressive and downright depressing if you were hoping for another RAZR MAXX-like device in terms of battery life. Still, the improved display, tweaked camera and still potent battery are worth a look provided Verizon prices the RAZR HD right, no?

On a slightly different note, we hope Motorola realizes the value the RAZR MAXX provided and how awesome of a selling point the battery life was. Hopefully they don’t completely abandon the MAXX branding/devices.
