STMicroelectronics reportedly bought bTendo for a few million dollars. The two companies started their collaboration towrads MEMS based laser-beam-steering projector modules back in 2011, and in 2012 they have shown a prototype projector and module, saying we can expect smartphones that integrate this projector to appear in 2013.
bTendo was founded in 2006 (we visited them in 2009) and raised about $7 million from Carmel Ventures and BlueRun Ventures. So an acquisition for a few million dollars is rather sad end for bTendo, which joins Explay – another Israeli pico-projector startup that was bought for only $550,000 in 2009.
